• Contentious employment work, acting predominantly for Respondents providing strategic advice from start to completion of Tribunal proceedings involving Hearing preparation, advocacy and/or negotiating settlement as appropriate
• Advises both commercial and charitable organisations in respect of all aspects of employment law and HR issues including disciplinary and grievance matters, sickness absence, redundancy, termination of employment, all types of discrimination
• Presentations at breakfast seminars (e.g.recruitment process, right to privacy) and conferences (e.g. Employment Law Update at Jordan Publishing Charity Law Conference)
• Drafting articles and BWB's e-flashes (e.g. abolition of the statutory dispute resolution procedures, swine flu guidance for employers) and quarterly updates (e.g. disability discrimination case law)
• Member of BWB's specialist Education Law Group
Recent cases
• Advised a well-known UK charity in varying the terms and conditions of all staff (800 employees) and successfully defended the subsequent multi-claim proceedings for unfair dismissal, indirect sex discrimination and disability discrimination
• Acted for a large sheltered housing organisation in respect of race discrimination proceedings - Claimant withdrew claim half way through nine day Hearing
• Advised a property management agency in respect of its duty to make reasonable adjustments as a provider of goods and services and defended the related complaint of disability discrimination
• Successfully negotiated a commercial settlement of discrimination and unfair dismissal claims at Judicial Mediation on behalf of three Respondents, avoiding costs of a six day Hearing
• Advocacy at full Hearing - successfully defended a claim for constructive dismissal and obtained an award of costs against Claimant; advocacy at Pre Hearing Reviews for further education colleges - succeeded in getting proceedings struck out
