The bullk of the Charities Act 2006 is now in force.  The first raft of substantive provisions came into force on 27 February 2007, with further provisions coming in on 28 November 2007.  The latest tranche came in with effect from 31 January 2009.

The remaining provisions of the Act are expected to come in as follows:

Late 2009 / Early 2010:

• Charitable incorporated organisations. Draft regulations have now been issued for consultation.  The legal form is expected to become available in late 2009 / early 2010. 

October 2009:

• Changes to the rules regarding exempt charities.

2009/2010:

• The new public charitable collections regime.

Consolidation of the Charities Acts 1992, 1993 and 2006 is now expected in 2009/2010.
