Legislation allowing charitable companies to convert into charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs) came into force on 1 January 2018. A charitable company can now convert to a CIO using a relatively straightforward procedure, with minimal disruption to its operations.
The CIO is generally considered to be easier to administer than a charitable company, but there are some disadvantages to CIO status.
This seminar is aimed at charitable companies wishing to understand more about the pros and cons of conversion. We will explore:
- The key features of the CIO;
- The advantages and disadvantages of a CIO as compared with a charitable company;
- The implications of conversion;
- The conversion process.
