Victoria Hordern, Head of Data Privacy, has provided her views to Global Data Review (GDR) on the Information Commissioner’s (ICO) consultation on a provisional code of practice setting out how companies process children’s data online.
Featured in an in-depth article (£) by GDR on the ICO’s consultation, Victoria’s remarks focus on how, “while there are a number of references to children’s data in the GDPR, the framework set out is not as comprehensive as the code being proposed by the ICO”.
The article also sets out how this recent guidance follows an earlier white paper from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport on online harms, a move which reflects government’s widespread understanding of the need for further protection of minors’ data.
